A place to land.

Before any of the digital parts matter, a person needs somewhere to be. The project starts there.

What a community ground is

An upgraded regional showground or similar site: legal places to stay, power, water, amenities, connectivity and workshops. It serves people in transition—those who cannot currently carry the costs or demands of a traditional home—and equally mobile workers, backpackers and travellers who need little more than a hot shower, power and a safe place to park. Residents bring a home on wheels, or are helped into a suitable one—the Walkabout Strategy covers the practical detail, and the community grounds page covers the full model.

What the town gains

A town without a place like this doesn't just fail the individual—it misses what people bring. Temporary residents carry skills, labour and fresh eyes; a secure place to land turns a passer-through into a contributor, if only for a season. And some contributions cannot be substituted: when a remarkable musician, craftsperson or thinker passes through, the community either provides a way to benefit from their presence or loses that opportunity by design—exceptional people cannot be copied, and the window exists only while they are there.

A floor that does not move

The concession floor is priced so a pension can bear it, and it is not conditional on work. If someone is ill, injured or unable to contribute, their place is still secure—stability first, because nothing else is possible without it.

A place for rebuilding, not warehousing

What separates a ground from emergency accommodation is what surrounds the site: workshops, tools, projects, connectivity, and other people doing the same. It is a place designed for starting again, not just for staying. And it is civics, not civic—the community's own work, not a government payroll: because waiting for government to fund everyone's survival is not a plan, and warehousing people out of sight is not a solution.
